About the Ford Family
(Otherwise known as Maw, Paw & the Weans)

PAW (Rev. Alan A. Ford)
Hi! I'm Alan Ford. I was born in 1948 and brought up in Glasgow in Pollok and
Knightswood. On leaving school I worked for the
Bank of Scotland in various
branches in the Glasgow area. In 1969 while working in the Bank I came to a
personal faith in Jesus as Saviour and Lord and in June of 1970, having
successfully completed the examinations of the Institute of Bankers in Scotland
I returned to full time education. I married my wife Mary in 1972 at Partick
Free
Church. My training for the Church of Scotland Ministry included
assistantships at my home church of
St. David's Knightswood,
Broomhill and Elderpark McGregor
Memorial Church, Govan. I graduated Bachelor of Divinity from Glasgow University
in 1976 and we moved to Dundee for a time as Probationer Assistant at
Mains of Fintry Church, Dundee.
While in Dundee our first daughter, Barbara was born. A call to
Airdrie: New Monkland linked
with Greengairs, followed by
an ordination and induction on the 13th. of July 1977 brought us to North
Lanarkshire where we remained for over twenty two years. Our younger daughter
Aileen who is known to many of her friends by her middle name, Kirsty, was born
in July 1978. I have an interest in computers including their construction. A
feature of the conservative and evangelical ministry has been a number of people
from the congregation called into full-time Christian service in other places.
In November 1999 I accepted a call from the congregation of
Glasgow: Springburn to be their minister and was
inducted as minister on the 19th January 2000 thus returning to my native city.

Maw (Mary Ford)
Hi! I'm Mary Ford. I was born and brought up in Scotstoun, Glasgow and on
leaving School began working with the
Bank of Scotland at Knightswood, Glasgow. When we moved Dundee I worked in
Nethergate Branch and while in Dundee Barbara was born and I stopped working in
the Bank. Once the children were at school I went back to work with the Bank of
Scotland in Airdrie on a part-time basis until I took early retirement in
December 2004. I was involved in Guides and Brownies as a leader for many
years. I taught in Sunday School and was involved
in the local branch of the
Scottish Bible Society. I was also involved in the
Church of
Scotland Guild. When we moved to Glasgow in January 2000 I left all of those
church responsibilities behind me and I am involved in the
church life of the Springburn congregation - prayer meeting, bible study, Guild
etc. I currently work part-time in a befriending project with Crossreach the
Church of Scotland's Social Care Organisation.

The Bigger Wean
(Barbara Mary Ford - now Ogston))
Hi! I'm Barbara, the eldest of the weans (excluding my father).
I was born in Dundee and moved to
Glenmavis when I was 3 months old in 1977. I have therefore been a ministers
daughter most of my life and will now be scarred forever. I worked as a Pre-5
Worker in a nursery centre with a mixture of mainstream and special needs
children until November 2000 when I took up a job in Children's Ministry in
Drumchapel. In the Spring of 2003 I began working with the
Aberlour Trust.
I have many other interests, most involving children because this means I have a
reason to act daft. I was a Sunday School teacher in
New Monkland Church and Brown
Owl in a Brownie Pack in
Greengairs Church. I am also very involved in Church of Scotland Summer
Mission where I have spent 2 years training to be a mission leader. In the
summer of 1999 I led my first
Mission to Kilmuir & Logie Easter which is north
of Inverness and also in Arbroath in July 2000 and 2001.
I
desperately wanted a West
Highland Terrier and shortly after arriving in
Springburn I bought Dougie (Kennel Name: Westiehome Douglas Briggs) who is
now putting on the Westie "old Man" act. I also became interested in the Mallard, a residential centre
for young people with learning difficulties. I
moved to my own
flat in Knightswood in 2001 and to a bigger flat also in Knightswood in
preparation for my wedding. On 21st August 2002 I became engaged to be married to
Stephen Ogston (in Shetland) and married in April 2003 and we lived in
Knightswood. Dougie the Dug likes him too! Stephen is now a minister of the
Church of Scotland at Ballantrae since January 27th 2009. Along with our
daughter (known as CeeCee) and son (known as "Cee") we are enjoying living by the seaside.
The Wee-er Wean (Aileen Kirsty Ford - Now Young))
Hi ! I was Aileen Kirsty Ford but
am now Aileen Kirsty Young. ( The sprog )
I was born on the 25th of July 1978 so please email any birthday cards for the
due date. I lived all my life until January 2000 in
Glenmavis. Looking at the
page about my big sister I realise that I should say something about my self.
After finishing school I went on to Clydebank college to train as a theatre
technician - that is on the stage, not in a hospital. There I met my husband
Raymond who is now a working for a roofing firm and we were married in
Springburn Parish Church in June 9th 2001. Until my teens I was known by my
first name (Aileen) but now everyone but my parents and sister and a few friends
from school call be by my middle name (Kirsty).
I worked in a jeweller’s shop in Glasgow for several years but now work in and
Electrical
Retailer's in Bearsden. I now
live with my husband in Faifley, Clydebank.
My hobbies include singing, shopping and eating chocolate and collecting furry
toys. I also have several pet rats and two rescued retired greyhounds.
